TAKING BACK SUNDAY’S ‘NEW AGAIN’ CHOSEN AS ALBUM OF THE YEAR BY ALTERNATIVE PRESS
NEW YORK BAND’S FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM IS EDITORS TOP PICK FOR 2009
Burbank, CA – Taking Back Sunday’s album New Again has been chosen by the editorial staff of Alternative Press as the Number One Album of 2009. The editors’ picks for the 10 Best Albums of the Year appear in AP’s February Year In Review issue, out January 5, 2010. The magazine, which Taking Back Sunday graced the June 2009 cover of, praised New Again as “undeniably brilliant.”
It has been a banner year for the New York quintet. New Again, their fourth studio album, was the third consecutive Taking Back Sunday release to debut in the top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. Warner Bros Records released the album on June 2nd and the band celebrated with a performance of their Top 10 Modern Rock hit “Sink Into Me” on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Produced by David Kahne, New Again has earned effusive critical praise. Rolling Stone called the track “Sink Into Me,” “the first song by an emo-pop band that the Foo Fighters wish they’d written: Catchy, lusty and sleekly propulsive.” Entertainment Weekly bestowed New Again with an “A-” rating and Revolver declared “The band lives up to the record’s bold title, pushing the limits of its sound with songs…that are more polished, dynamic, and upbeat than anything Adam Lazzara & co. have done before… New Again is fun and infectious.”
Since the release of New Again, Taking Back Sunday has been touring constantly, wowing audiences with their electric performances. They have headlined all over the US & abroad, joined Blink-182 and Weezer on a sizzling summer tour, and most recently co-headlined a nationwide run with The All-American Rejects. Taking Back Sunday harnessed their live energy in the recently released album Live From Bamboozle ’09, available exclusively on iTunes. Live From Bamboozle’09 captures the band playing to a crowd of over 30 thousand fans at the 2009 Bamboozle Festival, which took place in Rutherford, New Jersey on May 3rd. This is the first time songs from all four of the band’s albums are together on one release.
Taking Back Sunday culminated 2009 with two very special performances at the Angel Orensanz foundation in New York City. The unique venue and intimate setting was the perfect backdrop for the acoustic sets, which were filmed for an upcoming DVD.
